Nuclear Engineering (NUK) PhD Program aims to provide its students with a PhD education at an international level and in quality, compatible with the developments in the world and the educational programs implemented in the field of nuclear engineering in the universities of other developed countries. The program aims to contribute to the solution of global climate change problems, which arise from the greenhouse gas effect of fossil fuel consumptions as a result of the increasing lack of energy production in the world and, which has brought nuclear energy to the forefront of the agenda, by supporting the human resources infrastructure required for nuclear energy production.

Nuclear Engineering (NUK) PhD Program also contributes to the training of qualified, expert, doctorate manpower that can be employed in the construction and operation of nuclear power plants under construction, in the development of materials and the design and production of equipment and systems of new reactors through R&D studies and technology transfer, also in the application of nuclear techniques in various industrial activities, environmental radiation measurement and applications, and radiation protection services.

Structure and Implementation of the program:

- The language of the program is at least 30% English.
- The minimum credits required to graduate is 24.
- The PhD program consists of elective courses and the "Scientific Ethics, Research and Seminar" course, which is non-credit and compulsory for PhD students to take at least once, as well as the "Specialization Field Course", "Proficiency" stage and "Thesis" study.
- At least 15 credits of the total course credits that the student must take during his/her PhD education must be selected from "Nuclear Engineering Program" courses, and at least 50% of the total course credits must be selected from 600 coded courses.

Application requirements for the Nuclear Energy Engineering PhD program are as follows:

  • ALES Quantitative Score must be minimum 80 (old system GRE Quantitative minimum 720, new system GRE Quantitative minimum 156). Minimum master's degree graduation GPA must be 3.25/4.0 (82.5/100). A master's degree is required in the fields of Nuclear Sciences, Nuclear Energy, Nuclear Energy Engineering, Nuclear Technology, Nuclear Applications, Radiation Sciences, Radiation Science and Technology or in a field that may be needed in nuclear power plants. For those who want to apply from undergraduate to PhD, the minimum undergraduate average is 3.5/4.0 (88.33/100).
