The examination of the effect of environmental radiation and radiation pollution on the environment is important for human health. With the use of radioisotopes, the effects of environmental radiation can be observed and the level of radiation in materials can be determined. The determination of the properties of various materials, their behavior with irradiation, and especially changes of their properties with irradiation can be detected using various radioisotopes. Porosity, which is the most important feature of porous media, especially the local porosity can be determined by using gamma ray techniques as a result the flow property of the media can also be found. In addition to these, radiation shielding, which is an important topic for human health, is examined in the Radiation Applications Laboratory-B by using various materials and radiation sources.
